New Residential Construction
Building permits in September 2011 were 594,000, down 5.0 percent from August 2011 but up 5.7 percent
fromSeptember 2010. Housing starts were 658,000, up 15.0 percent from the prior month and up 10.2 percent
from the prior year.

New Residential Sales
Sales of new single-family homes in August 2011 were 295,000 at a seasonally adjusted annual rate, down 2.3 percent from the revised July level, but up 6.1 percent from a year ago.
